Dr Donald Lawrie

Donald is a Chartered Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney and a European Trade Mark and Design Attorney. He has a BSc. (Hons.) in Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Chemistry, from the Universities of Glasgow and Newcastle upon Tyne, respectively. Before founding Lawrie IP in 2010, Donald worked for one of the UK and Europe’s largest firms of patent and trade mark attorneys.

Donald works in the fields of biotechnology, chemistry, chemical engineering, medical devices, and general mechanical devices. He has particular expertise in oil and gas technologies, compositions of matter, formulations, food technologies, chemical apparatus, organic semi-conductors, biofuels and renewable energies, polymers, chemical processes, pharmaceuticals, new (medical) uses of known materials, nucleic and amino acid based materials, functional materials, orthopaedic devices and respiratory protection equipment.

Donald specialises in advising businesses on protecting their IP in a way that is appropriate and proportionate to their commercial plans. His practice areas include drafting and prosecution of global patent families, preparing and filing of registered designs, due diligence reviews, freedom to operate opinions, infringement opinions, validity opinions, entitlement actions, ownership advice, advising on IP clauses in agreements, IP audits, vendor IP reports and advising on preparation for investment or sale.

Dr Craig Hutchison

Craig has a BSc. (Hons.) in Applied Physics and a Ph.D. in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, both from the University of Strathclyde. He is a qualified European Patent Attorney, Chartered UK Patent Attorney and a European Trade Mark and Design Attorney. Before joining Lawrie IP, he spent over ten years working for one of the UK and Europe’s largest firms of patent and trade mark attorneys.

Craig works in the fields of physics, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, with particular expertise in oil and gas technologies, sonar imaging, retinal imaging, robotics, prosthetics, automotive engineering, cycling and fishing componentry, advanced coated films, and construction technologies.

His practice areas include drafting and prosecution of global patent families, due diligence reviews, freedom to operate opinions, infringement opinions and contentious proceedings before the Opposition Divisions and Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office.

Sharon Mackison

Sharon is a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney and a European Trade Mark and Design Attorney. She has a MA (Hons.) in French Language and Literature from the University of Glasgow. Before joining Lawrie IP in 2013, Sharon worked for one of the UK and Europe’s largest firms of patent and trade mark attorneys.

Sharon works in a wide variety of fields. She has particular experience with clients in the areas of pharmaceuticals, medical apparatus, software and mobile apps, oil and gas, clothing and accessories, food and drink, retail, marketing and business administration, financial services, design and development services and renewable energy.

Sharon specialises in advising clients on how best to protect their trade marks and how to enforce registered and unregistered rights. Her practice areas include clearance searching, filing and prosecution of applications in the UK, Europe and internationally, filing and defending oppositions, invalidity and revocation actions, arranging co-existence agreements, providing infringement advice, providing ownership advice and conducting IP audits. Sharon also advises on copyright issues and prepares and files registered design applications.

Dr Diane Cameron

Diane has a BSc. (Hons.) in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Chemistry, both from the University of Glasgow.

Diane is a Chartered Accountant and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. Diane trained with a Big Four firm of accountants and worked in the higher education sector prior to joining Lawrie IP.

Diane manages all aspects of the company’s finances, banking and insurance.  In addition, in her role as Company Secretary, Diane ensures the company’s ongoing compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Shirley Collins

Shirley is a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney and a European Trade Mark and Design Attorney. Before joining Lawrie IP in 2015, Shirley worked for two leading South African IP firms and for one of the UK and Europe’s largest firms of patent and trade mark attorneys.

Shirley works in a wide variety of fields. She has particular experience with clients in the financial, educational, charitable, environmental, oil and gas, renewable energy, retail, marketing, business administration and design and development sectors, and in the areas of food and drink, clothing and accessories, cosmetics, software, and mobile applications.

Shirley specialises in advising clients on protection and enforcement of their registered and unregistered trade marks both locally and internationally. Her practice areas include clearance searching, filing and prosecution of applications in the UK, Europe and internationally, filing and defending oppositions, invalidity and revocation actions, providing infringement and dispute resolution advice, recordal of registerable transactions worldwide, IP Audits, and general trade mark portfolio management. Shirley also advises on copyright matters and prepares and files registered design applications.

Kirsten Coetzee

Kirsten is a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney and a European Trade Mark and Design Attorney. He has a MA (Hons.) in Psychology from the University of Dundee, and obtained his Law degree (LLB) from the University of Glasgow. Before joining Lawrie IP in 2017, Kirsten worked for one of the UK and Europe’s largest firms of patent and trade mark attorneys.

Kirsten works in a wide variety of fields. He has particular experience with clients in the areas of food and drink, software and mobile apps, oil and gas, clothing and accessories, pharmaceuticals, medical apparatus, retail, sport and leisure, marketing and business administration, financial services, design and development services, manufacturing and renewable energy.

Kirsten specialises in advising clients on the protection of their trade marks, as well as the enforcement of their registered and unregistered rights. His practice areas include providing infringement advice, clearance searching, filing and prosecution of applications in the UK, Europe and internationally, filing and defending oppositions, invalidity and revocation actions, providing ownership advice, conducting IP audits and trade mark portfolio management. Kirsten also prepares and files registered design applications and provides advice on copyright matters.

Anders Jensen

Anders has a M.Sc. in Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark. He is a qualified European Patent Attorney.

Before joining Lawrie IP he spent seven years working for several of the UK’s largest firms of patent and trade mark attorneys. Prior to that, he worked as a Patent Examiner for the Danish Patent and Trademark Office.

Anders works in the fields of electronic and electrical engineering, physics, semiconductors, sensor technologies, optics and imaging, photolithography, wireless network technologies, with particular expertise in software and web-based inventions.

His practice areas include drafting and prosecution of global patent families, due diligence reviews, freedom to operate opinions, infringement opinions, IP audits and advising on software related patenting issues.

Dr Chris Martin

Chris has a MEng. in Electronic and Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering, both from the University of Glasgow.

Before joining Lawrie IP, he spent two years working as a Research Associate at the University of Glasgow, where he was part of an inter-disciplinary research project working on a portable electronic sensing platform to detect the metabolites present in human blood.

Chris works in the fields of electronic and electrical engineering, biosensors, nanofabrication techniques, mechanical engineering, physics, advanced coated films, sonar imaging, robotics, oil and gas technologies, construction technology, automotive engineering, retinal imaging, and prosthetics.

Dr Samantha Moreton

Samantha has a BSc. (Hons.) in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Glasgow and a Ph.D. in Nanochemistry from the University of Strathclyde.

Before joining Lawrie IP, Samantha spent two years working as an Analytical Chemist for a contract research organisation specialising in the analysis of pharmaceutical and agrochemical products, where she worked closely with clients to produce reports to support the global registration of products.

Samantha works in the fields of nanochemistry, biotechnology, medical devices, chemistry, formulations, pharmaceuticals, biofuels and renewable energies, organic semi-conductors, polymers and chemical processes.

Flora Hachemi

Flora has a Masters (LLM) in French and English Law with a speciality in Intellectual Property Law from Université Paris Nanterre (France) and an LLM in Intellectual Property & the Digital Economy from the University of Glasgow. She has successfully completed the Bournemouth University Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property and is now undertaking the Professional Certificate in Trade Mark Practice at Nottingham Trent University. Before joining Lawrie IP, Flora worked for three years as a CIPA qualified Patent Administrator for one of the UK and Europe’s largest firms of patent and trade mark attorneys.

Flora works in a wide variety of fields. She has particular experience with clients in the food and drink industry, clothing and accessories, cosmetics, retail, marketing and business administration, design and development services and charitable services.

Rowena Wood

Rowena has over ten years’ experience in the field of intellectual property. Before joining Lawrie IP, Rowena worked for one of the UK and Europe’s largest firms of patent and trade mark attorneys. She has also worked for a firm of patent and trade mark attorneys in Australia providing both Australian and New Zealand IP services to their clients.

Rowena is a qualified Patent Administrator, having obtained the CIPA Certificate in Patent Administration, and provides full administrative support to the Directors and attorneys at Lawrie IP. She also provides support to the firm’s Practice and Accounts team.

Rowena has extensive experience in patent, trade mark and design administration, formalities throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, United States of America, Australia and New Zealand. She also has a great deal of experience with global assignment recordal programs.

Elena McConnell

Elena has over ten years’ experience in the field of Intellectual Property. She has a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Tirana, Albania and became a member of Tirana’s Chamber of Lawyers in 2006.

Before joining Lawrie IP, Elena worked for a large multinational firm of patent and trade mark attorneys. Prior to that, she worked as a Trade Mark Examiner and then as Head of Legal and International Affairs Department at the Albanian Patent and Trade Mark Office.

Elena is a qualified Patent Administrator, having obtained the CIPA Certificate in patent administration in 2016; and a qualified Trademark Administrator, having obtained the ITMA Administrators’ Certificate for trade marks in 2014.

Elena provides full administrative support to the firm’s Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys.

Anthea MacMurray

Anthea is a qualified Patent Administrator with four years’ experience in the field of intellectual property and over twenty years’ secretarial, PA and administrative experience. Anthea obtained the CIPA Certificate in Patent Administration in March 2018.

Before joining Lawrie IP, Anthea spent over ten years working for one of the UK’s largest firms of solicitors, where she provided support to Partners and the corporate team.

Anthea has experience in all aspects of the patent and registered design process including database management, preparing patent and design applications for filing, handling official correspondence, preparing invoices, liaising with clients and foreign attorneys as well as renewals, European patent validations and recordals. Anthea provides full administrative and secretarial support to the firm’s Patent Attorneys.

Louise Greenshields

Louise has over eighteen years’ PA experience, and seven years’ marketing and communication experience. She has worked in a diverse range of industries including legal, asset management and construction consultancy, media, corporate hospitality, and the drinks industry. Before joining Lawrie IP, Louise spent twelve years working for one of the world’s leading asset management and construction consultancies where she carried out a variety of marketing, communication and PA roles.

Louise provides full administrative and secretarial support to the firm’s Trade Mark Attorneys.

Yvonne Martin

Yvonne has an MA (Joint Honours) in English Literature and Film and Television Studies from the University of Glasgow. She has over eighteen years’ experience in administrative roles, predominantly in the legal industry. She spent eight years as a court stenographer and transcription editor in London, covering various courts including the Old Bailey and the Royal Courts of Justice in addition to private litigation. Before joining Lawrie IP, Yvonne spent two years working as a Litigation Secretary/PA for a leading Glasgow law firm specialising in debt recovery.

Yvonne provides administrative and secretarial support to the firm’s Patent Attorneys.

Emma Mckay

Emma joined Lawrie IP in 2015 as an Administrative Assistant. Emma manages our reception, provides administrative support to our attorneys and secretaries, and assists in ensuring that the office runs smoothly and efficiently.

Since joining Lawrie IP, Emma has gained experience in carrying out reception duties, ordering office supplies, data capture, file maintenance, proof-checking, and preparing routine correspondence for attorney review.

Emma intends to build on the skill set she has developed to date, with a view to pursuing a career in the field of intellectual property.
